Join cabaret artist and musical theatre performer KT Sullivan to learn about song intention and how to synthesize it into the right fit for the cabaret stage.

Join Josh Pultz, senior agent with DGRW Talent Agency in New York City, for an afternoon of discovery into the mind of a talent agent. Select performers will be invited to display their wares in front of a public audience and receive feedback from the perspective of an agent looking for talent to represent. Learn how decisions are made and what you can do to strengthen your ability to identify the right agent for you at the right time in your career.

Casting/Audition Master Class with Justin Huff of Telsey & Company

Justin Huff, a casting agent in New York City, will be in Pittsburgh to attend the Local Showcase of Talent. While in town, we’ve asked him to offer a special master class on casting and auditioning. Telsey and Company is the hottest agency casting for Broadway and National Touring today with such shows as Wicked, Hairspray, Rent, Disney’s High School Musical, Grey Gardens as well as Off-Broadway, TV and commercials. Mr. Huff will work with 8 singers, chosen from Cabaret Pittsburgh auditions, and will focus on what Broadway is looking for in casting and auditions today. All others are invited to observe.

This is an opportunity to watch Cabaret Pittsburgh in action as they work with the singers selected for the October Local Showcase. Teachers, accompanists, directors, and professionals interested in gaining insight into the qualities and principles that drive Cabaret Pittsburgh are encouraged to attend. We will be addressing individuality, vocal prowess, professionalism and presentation and, time permitting, will allow questions from the audience.

The Principles of Belt Singing with Tony Richards

Voice expert and director of artist development, Tony Richards, will work with 8 singers of varying vocal abilities and show how the principles of belt can be incorporated into any style of singing. Anyone curious about how to identify these principles in themselves and in others is encouraged to attend – especially students and their teachers. This is an interactive program and followed by lunch with the artists from 12pm – 1pm by invitation.

Building a strong musical theatre show or song demands excellent communication skills and great team-work. Join nationally renowned singer/songwriter and composer Amanda McBroom as she talks about building a song utilizing the singer and the musical director. These three guest artists will work with selected singers and offer insight into the important elements that make up a great song, how to find one, and what to do with it when you’ve got it.

$60 participate/$30 observe
